Community Chaplain
Jewish Family Service is pleased to announce a new extension to our Community Chaplain program. Through the efforts of Chaplain Linda and Rabbi Larry Seidman, www.rationalrabbi.com, we are now serving the Jewish inmates incarcerated in the Orange County jail.
Along with community chaplain Rabbi Levi Blesofsky, they visit the jails on a weekly basis and provide pastoral counseling, Torah study and services to Jews of all denominations. They have also been working with the jail administration to protect the rights of the Jewish inmates. For example, they have facilitated inmates obtaining Kosher food--including special Kosher for Pesach meals--when desired. They have also provided religious books and study material to the inmates.
Jewish Family Service also provides other services which may be helpful to families experiencing stress because they have a loved one in jail or prison. Through the Jewish Healing Center, a program of Jewish Family Service, services include counseling and support groups, visitations to homes, facilities, jail and prisons and hospitals and information and assistance.
For more information, please contact Marcia Marcinko, Director of Volunteers and Outreach at 949-435-3460 or marcia@jfsoc.org
This program is generously funded by Jewish Federation Orange County.
Excerpt from a letter to Jewish Family Service from a jail inmate
"I hope you received my four page letter praising the work of the community chaplains and the volunteer who is mentoring my son. When funds are available I will make a donation to Jewish Family Service for providing this wonderful service."
Shalom and warmest thanks.
